This is a distillery bottling of Port Ellen of the 1979 vintage, aged for 22 years. This bottling was released as part of the Diageo Special Releases 2001 with a limited batch of 6000 bottles.
This one was funky. The bottle had been opened for a while but the punch was still there. However, there must be something with some 1979 Port Ellen bottlings having a crazy industrial umami smell incredibly reminiscent of a jazzed up black mushroom. An incredibly interesting profile with good body of the usual fruity Port Ellen flavours.
Nose: fumey metal mushroom
Palate: sour green apples and grapes with a good amount of minty, spicy mushroom
